Cysteine is one of the 20 naturally occurring amino acids and is a sulfur-containing (like methionine) non-essential amino acid. It can be synthesized in animals through methionine and serine. It has a mitigating effect on the repair of radiation damage to the body. It also has a wide range of detoxifying effects in the body and is a therapeutic agent for acrylonitrile and aromatic acidosis. Helps with alcohol withdrawal and is required for brain and liver action; essential for liver cell renewal.
