Like other drugs used to treat type 2 diabetes, alogliptin does not increase the risk of heart disease or stroke. Similar to other Liptin drugs, Alogliptin causes little weight gain and has a relatively low risk of hypoglycemia, with moderate hypoglycemic activity. Alogliptin is often used in combination with metformin, as are the other Liptin drugs, in patients who cannot control their blood glucose with metformin alone.
